When an electric fan is running (assuming no heat exchange between the room and the outside environment), the indoor temperature doesn’t drop—it actually rises. Let’s analyze why the temperature increases: As the fan operates, electric current flows through its coils. Since the wires have electrical resistance, they inevitably generate heat, which dissipates into the surrounding air, causing the temperature to rise naturally. But why do people still feel cool? That’s because our skin is covered with abundant sweat. When the fan starts spinning, it sets the indoor air in motion, accelerating the evaporation of sweat. And since "evaporation absorbs a significant amount of heat," this process makes us perceive a cooling effect, even though the air temperature itself is rising.
